Wisconsin PT and PTA CEU requirements
What physical therapists and physical therapist assistants need to renew a Wisconsin license, summarized from the board's own rules. Last checked October 23, 2026.
Required topics
- 4 hours of ethics, jurisprudence or both (for PTs and PTAs)
Rules to know
- Courses must be approved by the board.
- Hours count only in the renewal period when you earn them, and never toward two periods.
- New licensees don't need CE until their first full two-year period begins.
- If you miss the deadline, you must stop practicing unless the board grants a postponement or waiver, which is possible for prolonged illness, disability or extreme hardship.

This is a plain-language summary to help you plan. Rules change and your board has the final word, so confirm with the sources above before you renew. These are physical therapy rules: OTs renew through the state's occupational therapy board, and athletic trainers also keep their BOC certification.
