Connecticut PT and PTA CEU requirements
What physical therapists and physical therapist assistants need to renew a Connecticut license, summarized from the board's own rules. Last checked October 24, 2026.
Required topics
- At least 2 hours on screening for PTSD, suicide risk, depression and grief, and on suicide prevention, in your first year that requires hours and then at least once every 6 years
Rules to know
- Connecticut's continuing education law (§ 20-73b) sets hours for physical therapists. It doesn't set hours for PT assistants.
- Courses must relate to your practice. Courses offered or approved by APTA or one of its chapters, a hospital or licensed health care institution, or an accredited college count.
- Online and distance courses count.
- Hours can't be carried over to the next year.
- You don't need hours for your first renewal.
- Keep certificates for 3 years after the renewal they count toward.

This is a plain-language summary to help you plan. Rules change and your board has the final word, so confirm with the sources above before you renew. These are physical therapy rules: OTs renew through the state's occupational therapy board, and athletic trainers also keep their BOC certification.
