North Carolina PT and PTA CEU requirements
What physical therapists and physical therapist assistants need to renew a North Carolina license, summarized from the board's own rules. Last checked October 24, 2026.
Required topics
- The board's online jurisprudence exercise, each reporting period (counts for 1 point)
Rules to know
- Licenses renew every year, but points are counted over a 25-month reporting period.
- Courses from approved providers count without applying to the board. Approved providers include APTA and its sections and any US or Canadian PT licensing board.
- Up to 10 extra points can carry over to the next period, except points for the jurisprudence exercise, clinical practice and self-assessment.
- New licensees start their first reporting period on the January 1 after they're licensed.
- A point is a unit of continuing competence. A contact hour is at least 50 minutes.
