Montana OT and OTA CEU requirements
What occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants need to renew a Montana license, summarized from the board's own rules. Last checked October 24, 2026.
Required topics
None. Any course that meets the rules below counts.
Rules to know
- A current NBCOT certification meets the requirement.
- Courses offered or approved by the Montana OT Association, AOTA, the American Society of Hand Therapists or NBCOT are accepted. Internet courses must meet the same standards.
- The requirement starts after your first full year of licensure.
- Keep records and be ready to show them: the board may audit up to half of renewed licensees.
- Montana moved OT into the new Board of Physical, Rehabilitative, and Developmental Health Care Professionals on January 1, 2026. Its proposed combined rule (May 2026) keeps 10 hours a year for OTs, with NBCOT certification still accepted.
