Dry needling in Mississippi: the rules for physical therapists
Mississippi's PT board rule (Part 3103, Rule 3.3) puts intramuscular dry needling within PT scope once your credentials are approved by the board.
Rules to know
- Online study doesn't count. If you don't finish within 12 months, you start over (one 6-month extension is possible for good cause).
- During the course you can practice on the areas you've learned, but you can't bill for dry needling until all 50 hours are done.
- The board lists approved PTs on its website.
- Needles no larger than 25 gauge; no auricular or distal points. Get written informed consent stating your training.
- It can't be delegated.
- OTs: Mississippi's OT regulations (amended February 2025) also allow dry needling by OTs who meet their own training rules, including 50 hours of face-to-face instruction.

A plain-language summary, last checked October 24, 2026. Dry needling rules change often and some states regulate it through board statements rather than law, so confirm with your board before you dry needle. OTs and athletic trainers have their own rules.
